TITLE: Random MAC and Opportunity Detection in Dynamic Spectrum Access<\/p>\n
ABSTRACT: The huge demand for wireless services has been supported by
\nenhanced spectral efficiency, massive spectrum reuse and new frequency
\nspectrum bands. Among others, spectrum sharing is a fundamental item in
\ncommercial wireless systems to cope with the limited radio resource. It is
\nimplemented in all levels of the systems, from media access control (MAC)
\ndesign, up to coexistence of heterogeneous networks, where mutual
\ninterference is cancelled, mitigated, avoided or sometimes even shared by
\nthe multiple systems. For the shared radio access, sensing based approach
\n(e.g., CSMA\/CA, Cognitive Radio) has been used effectively; on the other
\nhand, there are still issues remained in detecting errors such as hidden-
\nand exposed node problems.
\n In this talk, we start with prediction of reception quality at the
\nreceiver, whereas the sensing of the channel is done in a separate position, e.g., by
\ntransmitters or independent sensing devices. Measuring the interference levels
\nat remote devices, the transmitter tries to predict the SINR at
\nthe corresponding receiver to reduce opportunity-detection errors.
\nIn line with this, the talk illustrates how the random ALOHA MAC behaves
\nwhen its transmission probability is linearly proportional to the
\nprobability of the “predicted”\u30fbopportunity at the receiver. Finally, the talk ends with
\nthe flexible duplex prototype that are currently under investigation in
\nYonsei university.<\/p>\n
