Among others, spectrum sharing is a fundamental item in<br \/>\ncommercial wireless systems to cope with the limited radio resource. It is<br \/>\nimplemented in all levels of the systems, from media access control (MAC)<br \/>\ndesign, up to coexistence of heterogeneous networks, where mutual<br \/>\ninterference is cancelled, mitigated, avoided or sometimes even shared by<br \/>\nthe multiple systems.  For the shared radio access, sensing based approach<br \/>\n(e.g., CSMA\/CA, Cognitive Radio) has been used effectively; on the other<br \/>\nhand, there are still issues remained in detecting errors such as hidden-<br \/>\nand exposed node problems.<br \/>\n In this talk, we start with prediction of reception quality at the<br \/>\nreceiver, whereas the sensing of the channel is done in a separate position, e.g., by<br \/>\ntransmitters or independent sensing devices. Measuring the interference levels<br \/>\nat remote devices, the transmitter tries to predict the SINR at<br \/>\nthe corresponding receiver to reduce opportunity-detection errors.<br \/>\nIn line with this, the talk illustrates how the random ALOHA MAC behaves<br \/>\nwhen its transmission probability is linearly proportional to the<br \/>\nprobability of the &#8220;predicted&#8221;\u30fbopportunity at the receiver.
