To<br \/>\nachieve higher automation levels, vehicles are being equipped with<br \/>\nmore and more sensors. High data rate connectivity seems critical to<br \/>\nallow vehicles exchanging all these sensor data to enlarge their<br \/>\nsensing range and make better safety related decisions. Current<br \/>\nsolutions for vehicular communications though do not support the<br \/>\ngigabit-per-second data rates required to exchange raw sensor data<br \/>\nbetween the vehicles or between the vehicles or the infrastructure.<br \/>\nThis presentation makes the case that millimeter wave communication is<br \/>\nthe only viable approach for high bandwidth connected vehicles. The<br \/>\nmotivation and challenges associated with using mmWave for<br \/>\nvehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure applications are<br \/>\nhighlighted. Examples from recent work are provided including new<br \/>\nnotions of coherence time and innovative architectural concepts like<br \/>\nradar-aided communication.<\/p>\n<p>BIO: Robert W.
